| BATTERY MANAGAMENT SYSTEMS In our house we distinguish between 2 different systems: -
A system that can handle ballancing and protection of the single cells, that are configuratet into a battery pack or battery bank. Typically named as "BMS system". -
A system that can monitor a batterybank, logging data and making feed-back to the user via a display. Typical named as "Battery Monitoring System". The complexity of the two management systems can vary quite a lot because it depends on customer's requirements to how sophisticated the battery protection shall be, how much battery data should be logged and the read-out availability. By using a combination of the two systems in e.g. Lithium Ion battery bank, the result will be an Intelligent Battery. These kind of batteries are used in EV's, sailboats, back-up power, and within the renewable energy sources. |
